Tax Cuts/Limited Government

To control tax hikes and manage spending, I proposed HJR1005,
the "Arkansas Taxpayer Bill of Rights" Amendment. This amendment mandates a
3/4 majority vote in both houses to raise any tax or fee and requires a balanced budget.
It limits the growth of state government spending by capping budget increases to the rate of inflation and mandates that budget surpluses be refunded to taxpayers.
I will not vote for any tax increases on the citizens of Arkansas!
In fact, during my first two terms in the House, I co-sponsored four bills aimed at reducing income taxes. Together, these efforts resulted in a tax cut exceeding half a billion dollars. These are incremental steps toward eliminating our state income taxes. To further reduce taxes, we must reduce spending. I voted against the last two budgets because they were expanding the size of our state government. I will continue to oppose these budget increases, as I campaigned on supporting smaller government. Additionally, I have voted twice to increase the Homestead tax credit, which is now $500 per year. This year, I co-sponsored a bill that removed the state sales tax on food. I have also supported several other smaller tax cuts.
