"I believe that life begins at conception and so does citizenship. The unborn deserve all the same protections that we have."
During my first two sessions, I have both sponsored and co-sponsored bills to achieve exactly that.
In 2023, I was a co-sponsor of HB1174, a bill aimed at providing full Arkansas citizenship protection to unborn children in our state.
Arkansas is ranked as the leading pro-life state. When it comes to surgical abortions, we have the most stringent law in the United States. Unfortunately, abortion in Arkansas has not been stopped; only the method of killing the baby has changed. According to those managing crisis pregnancy centers, the number of women considering abortion has not decreased. Women are now ordering chemical abortion pills online from out of state. Unsurprisingly, the number of abortions in Arkansas may be increasing due to the pills costing a fifth of what a surgical abortion costs, and the anonymity of not having to face someone to request them to murder your baby.
To address this new threat to the unborn, I wrote HB1678. It would change the penalty for shipping chemical abortion pills into Arkansas from a misdemeanor to a felony. Currently, cockfighting is a felony in Arkansas, but poisoning a baby is only a misdemeanor offense. It also expanded the ability of citizens to bring lawsuits against the providers of abortion pills. I also supported all other pro-life legislation and received a 100% on the Arkansas Right to Life Scorecard.
